What’s going on in Year 2?
Introduction to Year 2
Welcome to Year 2. There are 2 classes: 2M and 2W. The teachers are: Miss McIntosh, Miss Wilkes, Mrs Thirkettle and Miss Horner.
In the Autumn Term we will be learning about:
The Great Fire of London and Great Britain (history, geography and English)
Place value, addition and subtraction, money and multiplication and division (maths)
Animals including humans (science)
Online Safety (PSHE)
Islam and Christianity (RE)
In the Spring Term we will be learning about:
Antarctica and Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale (history and geography)
Twisted Fairy Tales (English)
Multiplication and division, statistics, shape and fractions (maths)
Materials (science)
Being responsible/feelings and emotions (PSHE)
Right and wrong (RE)
In the Summer Term we will be learning about:
Ghana and The Seaside (History, geography and English)
Fractions, measurement and position and direction (maths)
Animals and their habitats and plants (science)
Relationships and our world (PSHE)
Weddings and different types of families (RE)
The books/texts we will be using in our English this year are:
Vlad and the Great Fire of London, Ice Trap!, The Wolf’s Story, Beware of Boys, Little Red, Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch, Various non-fiction texts
Our expectations on home-learning are:
- Spellings sent home every Friday (for a test the following Friday)
- Mathletics set every Friday (relating to our learning in class)
- Please read with your child (and/or you read to them) every dayAny other relevant information:We have PE and music on a Tuesday (children can wear a PE kit to school on that day), and every Friday afternoon we have a KS1 Celebration Assembly where we celebrate our acheivements and find out who our new Star of the Week is!
